NaNoWriMo Writing

What Have I Done? Oh, Yeah…National Novel Writing Month

downloadAlright Lunatics…I have been coerced talked into participating in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) by Amber. I don’t know how I get myself into these things. Wait…yes I do. First, CJ said “join OctPoWriMo, it’ll be fun”, and then she wrote this lovely poem and I was inspired. Then Amber said, “you’re doing NaNoWriMo. It’ll be fun. And I’ll kick your butt if you don’t.” So I said “fine. I’ll do it.” (Okay, so she didn’t actually say she’d kick my butt, but it was implied. You could tell.) Do you see the pattern? It’ll be fun. Famous last words.

So, I’m making it official today. I am a NaNoWriMo 2014 participant. I am going to attempt to write 50k words in 30 days. That means I need to write about 1700 per day. What have I gotten myself into? I’ll be working on my story The Witch Queen of Celmarra. I’m hoping to at least get a first draft out of this challenge. Also, I have begun the process of picking the poems for my first collection, which (insert drum roll here) I am hoping to have released by February 2015. That’s the goal. It will be a self-published digital edition, and I am looking into the costs for producing physical copies for those who want one. I am definitely not afraid of a little challenge, am I? And, now that I have goals set, deadlines to meet, and a process started I will be setting up a Facebook page. As soon as it’s live I will post the link here and you can go like it and help give my heart a little thrill. Oh, and okay, so if you are doing NaNoWriMo, come be my buddy. I am Jesikay. I am also adding a word count widget to my sidebar so you can keep track of my progress there as well. I am so excited! So many good things happening!

Well, wish me luck everyone. I think I’m going to need it.

Jesi Kay, poet and aspiring novelist, was born in the Texas panhandle where wide skies, lazy summer days, and rolling thunderstorms sparked her imagination and left lasting memories in her blood. An early reader, poetry and mythology were her passions. So much so that when she was ten years old her step-father gave her his college mythology textbooks to read, which were full of classic poetry and more than enough tales to fill her romantic and inquisitive nature. Jesi loves reading, art, going to the theater, the romanticism of the Victorian era (but not the missing conveniences of indoor plumbing and central air conditioning), running when the heat and humidity cooperate, and cold weather so she can wear her favorite boots and knitwear. Also, she still has those college mythology textbooks, a little worse for wear over time but still intact and telling their stories to her. 1. Hi Brenda! I’m not sure if I’m joining 2018’s or not. I’ve been doing fine writing with an accountability partner over the summer and I am doing October Poetry Writing Month (Begins today!) and I’m concerned NaNo might be too much for me (again) this year. But we’ll see. I am hoping to actually work on actually (FINALLY) putting together my first poetry collection during November and really just want to focus on that and not add any more pressure. I’m worried that would simply make me feel overwhelmed. But we’ll see. I tend to change my mind at the last minute so you never know. LoL
