Put It Down, Save A Life

Warning: Post contains a fairly graphic video which I found hard to watch. Please do not watch if you have a sensitivity to blood or even fake blood. I want you to watch this video. It is important. My eldest son whose poem I put up a few nights ago goes to school in the district I graduated from-Mansfield Independent School District. MISD has this program for the juniors and seniors of all the high schools in their area called the Put It Down, Save A Life program. (You can find out more about the program here.) This program is designed to show real-life consequences of texting/drinking while driving. But…

Do You Love Me, Lady Jane?

Remember that 2006 Prius I mentioned in a post a bit ago? Meet my newest family member, Jane, or Lady Jane as I keep calling her in my head (that was one of my nicknames a looong time ago-not sure why). We’re still getting to know each other, but I like her. She’s hot. She has a rear-view camera and, of course, she has all leather interior. Leather is always ‘in’. She isn’t Bluetooth compatible but she does allow me to plug my phone into the speakers so I can listen to my mp3s or even my Love Book app.  The way those British accents sound in this car-I swear if…

    Camp NaNoWriMo and Boring Stuff

Some days there just isn’t all that much happening. Yesterday and today have been that kind of day. It’s almost anticlimatic. I have two and a half weeks now until my run, the reading is done and over with, there’s no writing group for a few more weeks unless something changes, and there’s been nothing happening this week. How boring can a week be? But I have been working on stories, three different ones, so I’m still accomplishing something. Other than that, though, not one darn interesting thing to talk about. You can only talk about how cute brand new baby kittens are or how the one who busted her…

    Oh, the Agony!

Today I am struggling with my inner voice. You know the one. It’s that one that keeps getting on your case because you aren’t doing much. It’s nagging at you that you’re wasting time and not doing anything. I hate that one. But, today I really have no choice. Well, actually, it’s been since Thursday. I’ve made a rookie mistake, and now I’m very thankful for the foresight I had when planning on getting back into running. My mistake is that I listened to some bad advice instead of trusting my own instincts and I failed to stretch properly before I started running a few weeks ago. I now have…

    I Am Lightning

My two year old loves watching Cars, the Disney/Pixar movie. He ‘discovered’ it over the summer. I have seen that movie so many times. It’s a really good thing I like Owen Wilson and that movie. But I know that opening line so well I can say it in my sleep. I probably have, too. I like that line, though. Lightning McQueen is using this mantra to focus himself on the race. And he begins by saying, “I am speed” and he ends with, “I am lightning,” which we then find out is his name. I love the first and last line. It is such a good confident statement. It…
