It’s April 1st and for some of us today is the first day of National Poetry Writing Month (for some of us today is also the first day of Blogging A to Z, in fact it’s their 10th anniversary). Bet you thought I was going to say it’s April Fool’s Day, didn’t ya? April Fool’s!
Sorry, you guys. It was a moral imperative. Typically I don’t go in for April Fool’s Day. I’m not very keen on practical jokes but sometimes you just need to have a little fun, right? So there. My little fun for the day. 😉
What isn’t a joke is that I’ve decided to participate in National Poetry Writing Month this year. I’ve skipped the last several years due, in part, to just being overwhelmed with family life and having to deal with all the issues surrounding that, emotional and mental. Add to that the physical issues with my health and I simply had more than enough to handle. This year things seem to be as back to what signals “normal” for me as it can be so I am going to attempt the poetry challenge.
I tried October’s poetry challenge (OctPoWriMo) but ended up with a couple of sinus and respiratory infections and got so far behind I couldn’t catch up but I intend to go back and write for what I missed (though those poems will not be posted online until after April). With this challenge I’m planning on using it as a fresh start.
So, check back later today for my first poem and check in daily to see what new thing I’ve come up with. I’m looking forward to it and hope you are too!
